Paulownia

The trees, and where they grow.

Paulownia is a fast-growing hardwood. It reaches harvest size in 7 to 9 years, which is what makes a cycle this short possible at all, and its light timber has a market when it is cut. Clearworld BV grows it on its own land in Belgium and France.

Your own trees

Your order is finalised within 2 to 3 days of payment. Individual trees are assigned once they are established, which takes about two years.

From then each one has its own serial number and GPS coordinates, and your account shows the plantation and the tree numbers.

What pays the return

The CO₂

A tree takes up CO₂ as it grows; the grower estimates about 0.1 tonne a tree a year.

That is sold as certificates on the voluntary market, and the sale is meant to pay the yearly amount; until it comes in, the grower's reserves pay it. Promised by Clearworld, not guaranteed. Certificate prices move, which is one of the risks.
